A series of curtain painting as a metaphor of human curiosity

"Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see. … Mystery is nothing. It’s unknowable…” -René Magritte.

In my latest series of painting “Curtain” always bring in feeling of illusion, an atmosphere of mystery. Once Mystery prompted curiosity, curiosity pushes us to discovery more about the hidden story, therefore what behind the curtain is all about human curiosity, which is always attributing to one’s psychological condition. There is no specific answer for this “what”; but believing there are multiple psychological conditions behind that could be either shared or rejected by different audience. One sees everything is flowers simply because he has only flowers in his mind. This show “Behind the Curtain” is to respond to the audience’s curiosity.

Yu Pui Shan born in Hong Kong, awarded Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art), Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, majoring in painting. YU’s paintings are influenced by her own experience in daily life; she has travelled to the UK during her study to observe and gain new life experience while further exploring the habit of humanity through art practice from different perspectives. She often uses symbolic imagery rather than direct representation in her paintings.
